Very attractive riverside house on Chattahoochee river

This modern waterfront home was designed by architecture studio Plexus R+D, located alongside the Chattahoochee River in Vinings, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. Situated close to the owner’s iconic Atlanta restaurant and their daughter’s school, this dwelling was created to simplify their lifestyle and keep everything close to their core stomping ground.

Spread out over three levels, this family home encompasses 5,300 square feet of living space. The program includes open and interconnected living spaces, three bedrooms, a fitness room, and extensive outdoor spaces. Materials were selected to evoke meaningful memories, such as the teak used in the primary bath that is reminiscent of the sailboats from the owner’s childhood.

The property is located within a significant floodplain, subjecting the design to extensive local and federal code restrictions intended to mitigate risk from flooding. The requirement to locate primary living spaces above a critical flood elevation became a primary design consideration that engendered a strategy of articulating a complex series of formal and spatial relationships between the site and structure.

Boasting a wonderful indoor-outdoor connection, this light and airy home has a modern yet warm aesthetic. We are especially loving the living room, which is anchored by a massive wall that incorporates a hearth and display system allowing the owners to display their most cherished artifacts.
